MEDINA CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES OF APRIL 21, 2009
The City Council of Medina, Minnesota met in special session on April 21, 2009 at 6:01
p.m. in the Medina City Hall.
I. Call to Order
Members present: Weir, Crosby, Siitari, Smith
Members absent: Johnson
Also present: City Administrator Chad Adams, Associate Planner Dusty Finke,
Finance Director Jeanne Day, Logo Design Consultant Lori
Dalrymple
II. City Logo Design
Adams stated comments from the public and staff had been provided to Council. He
explained the April 21 s1 regular Council meeting was promoted as an opportunity for
residents to provide final comments on the logo.
Dalrymple provided an overview of some revisions she made to the logo based on public
and staff comments. Discussionwas held on the previous and updated logos.
The Council directed Dalrymple to refine to include: more prominent cattails; water to
include more round rather than pointed feature; minor color modifications; and removal
of the blaze on the horse. Smith and Weir volunteered to work on the color refinements
with Dalrymple.
III. Grazable Acres
Finke provided an overview and presentation of the issues related to interpreting grazable
acre determination in the City's Rural Residential (RR) zoning district. Following
discussion, the Council agreed that:
1. Grazable acres do not include woods, wetlands and hardcover. Woods will be
defined.

2. More research/discussion is needed on determining if Class 1 wetlands are
grazable.
3. Reducing the minimum lot size for Conditional Use Permits (CUP's) from 10
acres to 5 acres was acceptable.
4. Additional language may be needed on tree clearing in the Rural Residential
ordinance or tree preservation ordinance as it applies to gaining grazable acres.
5. A goals/purpose should be added to the ordinance for clarity.
6. An appropriate timeline for Planning Commission review is June 2009.
IV. 2009 Budget

Adams and Day provided a brief overview of the 2009 budget to date and as projected for
the end of year. Adams stated a slide presentation would be provided during the regular
meeting for public review as well.
V. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
