A RESOLUTION: INITIATION TO AMEND ZONING ORDINANCE ARTICLES 6, 9 AND
18 TO ESTABLISH USE STANDARDS AND DEFINITION FOR
OVERNIGHT DOGGIE DAY CARE, AND TO AMEND USE
STANDARDS AND DEFINITION FOR A CATTERY
WHEREAS, in an effort to foster growth and development, Town Council seeks to review
the regulations related to the overnight boarding of dogs and cats; and
WHEREAS, overnight boarding of dogs and cats is currently limited to a kennel; and
WHEREAS, market trends indicate that this use is gaining popularity in retail and mixed-
use environments; and
WHEREAS,the public necessity, convenience, general welfare, and good zoning practice
require the proposed amendments.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as
follows:
SECTION I. Amendments to the Zoning Ordinance Articles 6, 9 and 18 are hereby
initiated, and referred to the Planning Commission to establish use standards and a definition for
overnight doggie day care, and amend use standards and definition for cattery to allow overnight
boarding.
SECTION II. The Planning Commission shall hold a public hearing to consider these
amendments to the Zoning Ordinance, and report its recommendation to the Town Council
pursuant the Section 15.2-2204 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended.
