Amy Wyks Named Leesburg’s
Assistant Director of Finance for Operations
Leesburg, VA (May 13, 2010) – Town Manager John
Wells announced today that Amy Wyks, currently a
Senior Engineer with the Leesburg Department of
Utilities, has been selected as the new Assistant
Director of Finance for Operations. Amy was chosen
for the position through an internal recruitment
process. She will be replacing Terry Frye, who is
retiring after 36 years of service with the Town of
Leesburg. The promotion will be effective June 4,
2010.
Amy joined the Town of Leesburg in August 2000 as
a Utilities Engineer and was promoted to Senior
Engineer in May 2001. Prior to working for the
Town of Leesburg, Amy held the position of Transportation Engineer with PBS&J in Chantilly,
Virginia. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1997
and is a Virginia Professional Engineer. In May 2006, Amy received her Master’s Degree in
Public Administration from George Mason University, through GMU’s Northern Virginia Public
Service Fellows Prog
ram.
Designed exclusively for working professionals, this program has the same academic
requirements as GMU’s traditional MPA program but replaces the required electives with
classes better suited to preparing the students for future leadership positions with local
governments in Northern Virginia. Each class is composed of 25 midcareer managers from ten
Northern Virginia jurisdictions. The Town of Leesburg has been a participant in the GMU
Northern Virginia Public Service Fellows program since its inception in 2001. In addition to
Amy, two other Leesburg employees have participated in the program.

“Amy has been a tremendous asset to the Utilities Department. She brings in‐depth
institutional knowledge of the Town’s operations as well as the perspective of an internal
customer of the Finance Department to her new position,” said Town Manager John Wells.
“Her selection for this position demonstrates the real value of the Town’s participation in the
George Mason cohort program and the importance of investing in our employees’ continued
professional growth.”
