Home My Public Portal About13-30 Create a Education Committee 1St Reading: 09/11/2013 2°d Reading: 09/25/2013 Public Hearing: 09/25/2013 Adopted: 09/25/2013 Effective Date: 09/26/2013 Sponsor: Commissioner Johnson ORDINANCE NO. 13-30 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, TO CREATE THE OPA- LOCKA EDUCATION COMMITTEE, WHICH WILL OPERATE WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM PUBLIC, CHARTER AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICT AND REPEALER; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Opa-locka desires to create an Opa-locka Education Committee for the purpose of developing, coordinating, administering the education component related programs and activities to improve the education processes and standard in the City of Opa-locka;and WHEREAS,the Education Committee shall consist of the PTA President from each school in the City(Public, Charter and Private),together with a Commission Liaison,who will represent the City; and WHEREAS,the Commission liaison shall serve a term of two(2)years,and will be a voting member;and WHEREAS, officers shall be selected by the Committee within 60 days of its formation, except that there shall be no treasurer, since the Committee will not handle any funds, but will instead handle all financial matters through the City; and ORDINANCE NO. 13-30 WHEREAS, the Committee will adhere to guidelines approved by Miami Dade Public County School("MDCPS")for all education compacts within the County;and WHEREAS, the Committee shall develop an annual calendar of events in order to assist education compact within the City; and WHEREAS, a representative of MDCPS will act in an advisory capacity to the Committee, only as to matters concerning traditional public schools in the City Feeder Pattern and is not a voting member. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT DULY ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, hereby creates the City of Opa-locka Education Committee, to be composed of PTA Presidents from each public, private, and charter school in the City, and one City Liaison. The Committee will be organized for the purposes, and will operate in accordance with the guidelines, set forth hereinabove. Section 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this Ordinance. Section 4. All ordinances or resolutions or parts of ordinances or resolutions in conflict herewith, are hereby repealed Section 5. This Ordinance shall be codified in the Code of Ordinances when the code is recodified. ORDINANCE NO. 13-30 Section 6.
