® AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 330 OF THE
GREENCASTLE CODE
OPEN BURNING
BE IT ORDAINED AND ADOPTED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GREENCASTLE, INDIANA:
SECTION 1. CHAPTER 330 is hereby amended to read as follows:
CHAPTER 330 -5 OPEN BURNING
(a) No open burning of leaves, grass, wood, brush, waste oil, tires, paper, trash, or
garbage shall be allowed within the City of Greencastle. The following types of
fires are permitted:
1. Fires celebrating Twelfth Night Ceremonies.
2. Fires celebrating School pep rallies.
3. Fires celebrating scouting activities.
• 4. Fires used for recreational and cooking purposes, i.e. campfires, BBQ grills.
5. Air curtain destructor burning when a copy of Indiana Department of
Environmental Management letter of approval has been filed with the Chief of
the Greencastle Fire Department.
(b) 1. Fires shall be attended at all times until completely extinguished.
2. if fires create a nuisance or fire hazard, they shall be extinguished.
3. No burning shall be conducted during unfavorable meteorological conditions
such as temperature inversions, high winds, air stagnation, etc.
(c) All open burning must comply with the regulations controlling open burning
promulgated by the Indiana Air Pollution Control Board (326 IAC 4 -1 -1, et seq.)
(d) Any person violating this ordinance shall be fined in an amount not to exceed Two
Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500.00) for each such offense.

SECTION 2.
This Ordinance shall take effect upon passage.
