UPPER CHARLES TRAIL COMMITTEE

MINUTES
Members present: Bob Snyder, Barry Rosenbloom, Jane Moran, Eli Post, Eric Sonnett, Jeff
Barnes, David O’Brien, Kelly Karp
Members absent: John Coutinho, Ken Parker
1. Liaison reports:
Eric reported on his meeting with Norman re: the Main Street project. Eric believes that
this project is proceeding well, and that the HUCTC request for a viable bike path along
Main Street is understood and part of the plan.
Jeff reported that the “Art on the Trail” celebration is moving along.
Dave reported that not much has yet happened re: his liaison position between Parks and
Rec. and the planned dog park. This is expected as a result of the changed Parks and Rec.
committee.
Barry declared that he will attend the Open Space Committee meeting on 7/7/16.
Jeff reported that Joe Regan is moving slowly on the remaining Center Trail tree
removals. Joe need to do the work on a weekend in order to access the trail with his
equipment.
2. VHB report: VHB is the engineering firm working with the town on behalf of the Main
Street project. VHB has been provided with a general description of the trail that is desired
between EMC Park and the Todaro property. The engineering plan for this trail is referred to
as “Phase 2”. A feasibility study for a bike trail between Center School and the Prestwick
Drive area is referred to as “Phase 3”. The fee for Phase 2 and Phase 3 is $10,600 each. Jane
noted that the VHB engineer is familiar with bike paths.
3. Legacy Farms South: Jane passed out the color coded trail maps that were presented at the
Planning Board meeting. A discussion ensued regarding the implications of this plan to
HUCTC. Members agreed that this map represents a positive communication step between
Legacy Farms and the town.
4. “Second Look Approach” re: Milford Trail connection: Eli handed out a 6 page attachment
(of maps) to illustrate his research into connecting to the Milford Trail Head on Hayden
Rowe Street. He discussed a pair of hikes that he took, corresponding to pages 1 and 2 of his
attachment. This prompted a discussion of various aspects of these options, including
crossing points and possible abutters. Jane has asked Elaine for a comprehensive map of
these areas that show all property owners. Elaine has requested this map from the new town
IT person. We expect this output soon.
5. Renaming the Wyckoff trail: Jeff moved that HUCTC recommend renaming the Wyckoff
railroad bed segment of the Hopkinton Upper Charles Trail to “Echo Trail”. Dave seconded
the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
6. Golf shirts: the current inventory is 22 shirts. We will not order any more at this time.

7. Treasurer’s Report: Barry has asked the town accountant for a final year end report. This
should be available at the 7/20/16 meeting.
8. The public meeting was adjourned at 8:25 PM.
