1 Tiffin Planning and Zoning July 5, 2000
A regular meeting of the Tiffin Planning and Zoning was brought to order by Chair
Steve Berner. Planning and Zoning members present: Steve Berner, Tina Walls, Terry
Richardson, Melvin Reeve and Sandy Huedepohl. Absent: None. Also present: Mayor
Glenn Potter, Councilmember Jim Bartels, Councilmember Karin Dils.
No meeting held in June due to lack of quorum.
Vic Zender was present to request that the city sell him some ground adjacent to his own
east of the city. Vic is presently part of his ground for soccer fields for youth. The City
has not made any notification of desire to sell, as they are presently in the process of
purchase themselves. Chair Berner indicated that one plan for the area was to develop
the area being discussed into city park area and selling it to Mr. Zender might make that
plan impossible to complete. Berner asked Vic if he could provide any assurance that the
site would remain in recreational soccer use. Mr. Zender indicated that soccer use would
be his intent, but he couldn't really assure that use into the future.
Motion Berner, second Hudepohl that the Planning and Zoning not recommend sale of
proposed city property to Mr. Zender. Ayes: Richardson, Walls, Hudepohl, Reeve and
Berner. Absent: None. Motion carried. Planning and Zoning members indicated that
Mr. Zender could present his request to the city council should he wish to do so.
Melvin Reeve presented request to change zoning from R-3 Multiple Family Zoning to R
2.5 Multiple Family Zoning for ground he owns directly north of Highway# 6 on the
east side of the city. Motion Huedepohl, second Richardson to recommend approval of
change of zoning for the Melvin Reeve property north of Highway#6 on the east side of
the city, changing current zone of R-3 to R- 2.5. Ayes: Richardson, Berner, Walls,
Huedepohl. Abstaining: Reeve. Absent: None. Motion carried.
Ed Cole was present to give Planning and Zoning members more information about
possible design plans for a subdivision on the most west edge of the city, located directly
east'of the electrical substation and on both north and south sides of Highway#6.
Members explained a desire to allow four lots of space on the southwest corner of the
subdivision for playground location for the children residing in manufactured housing
district,the playground location would be abutting school ground if the school can make
acquisition of the land east of this subdivision. Open or playground space was not
considered on the north side of the highway.
Motion Huedepohl, second Walls to adjourn. Motion carried. 7:25 p.m.
