HomeMy Public PortalAbout2020_03_10_R039 Virginia Trees for Clean Water Grant from Virginia Department of Forestry The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED: March 10, 2020 RESOLUTION NO. 2020-039 ADOPTED: March 10, 2020 A RESOLUTION: ADMINISTER VIRGINIA TREES FOR CLEAN WATER GRANT FROM VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY (2019-2020) WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Forestry has awarded the Town of Leesburg partial funding for the 2019-2020 Virginia Trees for Clean Water Grant where a 50/50 match in funds to be used for municipal areas or riparian buffers; and WHEREAS, trees provide a multitude of benefits to urban and peri-urban communities in helping to clean our water, scrubbing our air, and mitigating the effects of urbanization; and WHEREAS, the Tuscarora Creek Flood Mitigation and Stream Restoration Project meets the requirements of the grant and has an approved landscape plan with funding; and WHEREAS, adjacent residents have requested larger trees installed in this area which are not funded for this project, but which could be funded through the Virginia Trees for Clean Water grant from the Virginia Department of Forestry. THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that: I. The Town Manager is hereby authorized to sign the Virginia Trees for Clean Water Grant for 2019-2020 in the amount of$13,500, in a form approved by the Town Attorney; and II. The budget is amended and a supplemental appropriation in the amount of$13,500 is hereby made to the Department of Public Works and Capital Projects for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2019 and ending June 30, 2020.
