Greetings:
;n the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby
directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Brewster
qualified to vote in Town affairs to meet in the gymnasium of the
Middle School in Orleans on Monday evening, January 7, 1974 at 7:30 P.M.
then and there to act upon the following articles:
ARTICLE 1. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from
available funds and add to the Law Department Expense Budget the sum of
three thousand ($3,000.00) dollars: and to transfer from the Law Depart-
ment Salary Budget to the Law Department Expense Budget the sum of one
thousand two hundred fifty and 7%100 ($1,250.07) dollars.
ARTICLE 2. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from
available funds the sum of nine thousand three hundred ($9,300.00)
dollars for the following accounts:
Selectmen's Expense - $500.00
Accountant's Salary - 1,000.00
Assessors' Expense - 3,OCO.00
General Office Supplies- 500.00
Fire Department Expense- 4,000.00
Conservation Commission- 300.00

ARTICLE 3. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from
available funds to the Town Hall Expense Account the sum of three
thousand ($3,000.00) dollars to establish a fire alarm system for the
Brewster Town mall.
ARTICLE 4. To see if the Town will vote to approve of a new Wages
Account for the Department of Puolic Works, and to transfer to it from
available funds the sura of five thousand and five hundred ($5,500.00)
dollars.
ARTICLE 5. To see if the Town will vote to appoint a School
Building Committee composed of seven members, four to be appointed by
the Selectmen and. three to be appointed by the School Committee, to
obtain preliminary plans and specifications for providing adequate
facilities for the Brewster Elementary School, and to transfer from
available funds the sum of twenty thousand. ($20,000.00) dollars for
these plans and specifications and further expenses of the Committee,
and to take any action relative thereto.
ARTICLE b. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from the
Repair Exterior Town mall Account the sum of five thousand ($5,000.00)
dollars to New Office Equipment Account.
ARTICLE' 7. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from the
Senior Office Clerk Account to the Junior Office Clerk Account the
sum of eight..hundred ninety-five and fifty-three hundreds ($595.53)
n dollars in order to rectify an unauthorized bookkeeping entry made on
June 30, 1973.
- ARTICLE 5. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from the
Senior Office Clerk Account to the Junior Office Clerk Account the sum
of twelve hundred and fifty ($1,250.00) dollars to provide for a part--
time Junior Office Clerk for the Planning Board.
ALRTICLE 9. To see if the Town 7wi11 vote to approve the addition
of an Expert Fee Account to the Planning Board's Budget and to transfer
from available funds the scam of fifteen hundred ($1,500.00) dollars to
this account.
ARTICLE 10. To see if the Town will vote to increase the number
of members of the Planning Board to seven (7) by deleting the word "five"
from Article 36 of the Warrant for the Annual Town Meeting of
March 4, 1947, and substituting the word "seven", so that it will read:
"To see if the Town will vote to elect a Planning Board of seven (7)
members under Section 81A through 81J of Chapter 41 of the General Laws";
and further to amend Article 36 of the Warrant for the Annual Town Meeting
of March 4, 1947, by deleting the word "Meeting" and substituting the word
"Election" so that it will read, "to become effective at the next Annual
:own Election."
ARTICLE 11. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from the
Road Machinery Fund to the Road Machinery Expense Account the sum of two
thousand ($2,000.00) dollars to be used for the maintenance and operation
of Road Machinery.
ARTICLE 12. To see if the Town will vote to amend. the Finance
Committee Bar-Law, adapted April 26, 1929, by deleting the last sentence
of the first paragraph, to wit "The moderator of each annual town meeting
thereafter shall appoint three members for a term of three years", and
substituting the following: "Three members shall be elected at each annual
election of town officers for a three-year term starting in May of 1974,
to fill the positions of the members whose terms expire in that current
year"; and further to amend said By-Law by adding to the last paragraph
following the word "committee" the clause "for the period until the next
annual town election", so that it will read "Any vacancy which may occur
in said committee shall be filled by the remaining members of the
committee for the period until the next annual toum election". (By request)
ARTICLE. 13. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from available
funds and add to the Street Lighting Budget a sum of money sufficient to
install and maintain a street light on pole #34/25 on Slough Road and a
street light on pole #2/2 on Route 6A near the Baptist Church. (By requests)
ARTICLE 14. To see if the Town will vote to transfer a sum of money
from the Receipts Reserved for Appropriations Account to the 'grater
Construction Expense Account.
ARTICLE 15. To see if the Town will vote to transfer a sum of money
from the Water Department Assistant Superintendent's Salary Account to the
Water Department Clerk's Pelages Account.
ARTICLE 16. To act on any other business that may legally come
before this meeting.
And you are directed to serve this Warrant with your doings thereon
to the Town Clerk at the time and place of said meeting as aforesaid.
