HomeMy Public PortalAbout1950-07-17 Meeting60 JULY 17, 1950 The Council of Bal Harbour Village met at the Administration Building at 8:15 o'clock P. M., July 17, 1950, to act as a Board of Equalizati.an for the Village tax roll covering the period of January 1, 1950, to December 31., 1950. All the members of the council were present, namely: Messrs, Ea-atty, Graham, Jr., Simons, Stokely and Whit:.aker. Also present was Mr. W. H. Webb, Town Manager, It was reported by Mr. Webb that a no,ice had beer posted from July 10, 1950 to July 17, 1950, a partad of seven daya, at the town hall informing; property owners that the tentative tax assesamerna roll, could be seen in the village affic.ea; and that no protests or :om— plaints had been received. As no taxpayers were present La prateat the tentative tax assessments, the aounci.l. as a Board of Equalization, on motion duly made, seconded and carried, accepted the tentative tax a.ssessaent roll as presented by the tax aaaeasor, fixing the taxable value of real property in the village at $6,514,720,00, and personal property in the amount of $359,400.00, less Homeatead Exemptions of t120,000,00, and Widow's Exemnti.,ns of $2,500.00 as of January 1, 1950. Thereupon on motion of Mr. Simona, sea anded by Mr. Beatty the meeting adjourned. Thereafter the council recanvened and proceeded further with a regular business meeting. The minute:+ of the previous meeting of Jana 6, 1950 were react and approved. A letter was read from Mr, John G. Pool with reference to changing the rear setback lino on the lote. After lengthly discussion it was agreed that changes at this time would make it impossible to utilize some of the lots. No action was takea until further study could be made. Mayor Graham discussed with the council letters received from Mr. Bohland, a Surfside resident, regardla g he aewage outfall into the ocean, No action was taken on this matter. Mr. Graham described the initial work for the starting of the new causeway and said Mr. Shepard Broad had requested permissian to erect a directional sign on Bel Harbour Village property. The council agreed that a sketch showing the sign's size and character and location must be submitted for approval before permission could be granted. Mr. Graham explained to the council the formation of the Dade County Defense Council and said that. Bal Harbour Village will be called on at a later date to organize our group. JULY 17. 1950 The council agreed that the $200.00 as appropriated at the meet- ing of June 6, 1950 for the report on the development of the Graves Tract should be sent at this time. The audit for the nine months village operation was presented to the council and approved. Mr. Webb reported to the council that the budget for the fiscal year of 1950-1951 was completed and outlined to the council what it would be. The council thereupon decided that they would meet on Monday, July 24, 3950 to discuss t.hi.=. budge.. On motion of Mr. Stokely, seconded by Mr.. Simon:,, the meeting adjourned. Beatty, Graham, Jr., Simons and Stokely. Absent: Mr. Whittaker Also present was Mr. W. H. Webb, Town Manager. On motion of Mr. Simons, seconded by Mr. Stokely, the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting of July 17, 1950 was dis- pensed with. After discussion, the budget for the fiscal year of 1950-1951 was adopted rs oresented by the Town Manager together with an increase or $1,200.00 in the manager's salary. Thereupon on motion of Mr. Beatty, seconded by Mr. Stokely, the following resolution, entitled: JULY 24. 1950
