HomeMy Public PortalAbout2014-09-18 minutesMinutes Meeting of Cemetery Resource Board Thursday, September 18, 2014 Members Present: Samantha Renner, Vice -Chair Michael Shellman Nancy Thompson Members Absent: Steven Wells, Chair Mark Schreiber Staff: Dan Davis, Senior Housing Inspector Don Beck, Property Inspector David Grellner, Environmental Health Manager The Cemetery Resource Board met on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Small Conference Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. Vice -Chairman Samantha Renner called the meeting to order. Approval of Minutes: A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the June 19, 2014 meeting by Michael Shellman, seconded by Nancy Thompson. Minutes were approved. Welcome New Board Member: Samantha Renner welcomed Nancy Thompson to the Cemetery Resource Board. Old Business: David Grellner gave an update on cemetery maintenance. He stated a limb had fallen out of the walnut tree in Woodland/Old City Cemetery and that Lamberson Lawncare, current contractor, had been contacted and the limb will be removed this week. David also mentioned to Lamberson Lawncare to trim closer to the North fence line at Longview Cemetery and West fence line at Woodland/Old City Cemetery. David also mentioned that groundhog maintenance has improved. There are currently 1 or 2 active holes. This was a reduction from around 15 holes 5 years ago. The Cemetery Restoration project has also been completed. Thirty-one grave stones have been restored in Woodland/Old City Cemetery. Discussion also occurred about how to handle some of the flat stones that are face down on the ground and how to restore them. Nancy Thompson asked whether there was water available at the cemetery for use as she is currently working in the cemetery doing research work. It was mentioned by staff that water is available at the hydrant by the large white oak tree. David mentioned that caution signs had been made for the cemetery warning people of the hazards of tipping monuments, a trash can has been placed in Longview Cemetery for the public use, and the "Find A Grave" website had been added to the History/Heritage City of Minutes of the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resource Board September 18, 2014 p9.2 Jefferson Webpage. Also the cemetery record book of Woodland/Old City Cemetery has now been put online on the City website. Samantha reminded everyone of the Civil War Event on October 5, 2014, being sponsored by the Historic City of Jefferson and Woodland/Old City Cemetery, would be one of the stops. Other Topics and Issues: Samantha moved to schedule the next meeting date before doing the onsite tour of Longview Cemetery. The next meeting date was set for Thursday, March 19, 2015, with time to be announced as the meeting comes closer. New Business: The Cemetery Resource Board and staff took a tour of Longview Cemetery. Discussion occurred between members and staff about sections of the cemetery such as locations where people had been moved in from other cemeteries, prisoner section, and other individuals buried at the cemetery. It was mentioned by board members that Longview Cemetery looked in good shape. Adjournment: With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, -:n� e,64", David Grellner
