A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TEMPLE CITY EXPRESSING STRONG
OPPOSITION TO ANY INCREASE IN THE TAX
RATE TO BE LEVIED BY THE COUNTY OF LOS
ANGELES FOR THE 1963 -64 FISCAL YEAR.
WHEREAS, the Chief Administrative Officer of the County of
Los Angeles recently submitted to the County Board of Super-
visors a preliminary county budget calling for a proposed expen-
diture of $678,623,386 for the 1963 -64 fiscal year; and
WHEREAS, said county budget will, if adopted, reflect a
22.8 cent increase in the county tax rate; and
WHEREAS, more and more area is being removed from county
jurisdiction by the incorporation of municipalities, thereby
reducing the area served by the county; and
WHEREAS, it appears that an unreasonable and inequitable
portion of the constantly increasing county taxes is being
imposed upon the residents of the various municipalities within
the county to pay for services which benefit only the unincor-
porated areas,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE
CITY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the proposed increase of 22.8 cents
or any increase in the county tax rate is inequitable, unreason-
able and unjust to those taxpayers who reside within the City
of Temple City for the reasons enumerated heretofore, and
SECTION 2. That the County Board of Supervisors make
every effort possible to reduce the county tax rate in view of
substantial annual increases in assessed valuation while the
unincorporated area served by the county is being substantially
reduced because of municipal incorporations.
SECTION 3. That the proposed tax rate, when consoli-
dated with tax rates to support educational, municipal and other
services, will produce a total tax so burdensome that many
properties will be placed in jeopardy through default of tax
payments.
SECTION 4. That the City Council of the City of Tempi
City directs the City Clerk to forward a copy of this resolu-
tion to the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles.
