Town of Leesburg Invites Entries in
Annual Independence Day Parade
Leesburg, VA (June 14, 2010) ‐ Start your July 4th with a bang! The Town of Leesburg’s 2010
Independence Day Celebration will be held on Sunday, July 4, 2010. The day will be full of
festivities beginning with the annual Independence Day Parade, held through Historic
Downtown Leesburg.
The parade will kick‐off at 2:00 p.m. from Ida Lee Park, travel south on King Street and conclude
at Fairfax Street (by Safeway). Civic groups, youth organizations, community groups, families
and others are encouraged to participate in the parade. No entry fee is required. Pre‐
registration is encouraged, but is not mandatory. The application for the parade is available
online at www.idalee.org, or at the front desk of Ida Lee Park Recreation Center.
This year’s parade will feature the 3rd Annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by the
Leesburg Today newspaper. This award will go the best parade entry. The winners will receive
a banner to be placed on their entry during the parade and their group name engraved on the
Patriot Cup.
Awards will also be given to the best musical, most creative, best interpretation of theme, and
best walking group entries. These four award competitions will be separated into two age
categories, Under 14 and Ages 14 & Older. Winners will be presented with banners for their
floats as well as commemorative certificates to be presented at a Leesburg Town Council
meeting and recognition on the Town website.
