ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A PREVAILING WAGE
REQUIREMENT FOR THE BOROUGH OF CARTERET
Section 1. Purpose
It has been declared to be the public policy o£ the Borough of Carteret to establish a
prevailing wage level for workmen engaged in public works in order to safeguard
their efficiency and general well being and to protect them as well as their employers
from the effects of serious and unfair competition resulting from wage levels
detrimental to efficiency and well-being.
As a result, the Borough has determined that it is in the public interest to supplement
the provisions of the New Jersey Prevailing Wage Act, N.J.S.A. 34:11-56.25 et seq.,
by reducing the applicable prevailing wage threshold amount to two thousand dollars
($2000.00) for municipal public works contracts.
Section 2. Implementation
A. For any public works contact to be awarded by the Borough of Carteret, as
defined by 34:11-56.26(11)(a) exceeding two thousand dollars ($2000.00)
shall comply with the New Jersey's Prevailing Wage Act, N.J.S.A. 34:11-
56.25 et seq.
B. The borough's Purchasing Agent shall be designated as the Prevailing Wage
Compliance Officer
C. The definitions as set forth in the Prevailing Wage Act as found in N.J.S.A.
34:11-56.26, as amended and supplemented from time to time, are
incorporated herein and made a part hereof.
D. Any contractor whose business is located within the Borough shall be exempt
from the supplemental provisions of this Ordinance.
Section 3
All ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with the provision of this ordinance are
hereby repealed limited to the extent of any such inconsistency.

Section 4
If any section, paragraph, sub-division, clause or provision of this ordinance is
adjudged invalid, such adjudication shall apply only to the section, paragraph, sub-
division, clause or provision so adjudged and the remainder of this ordinance shall be
deemed valid and effective.
Section 5
This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and publication according to
applicable law.
