Meeting of Cemetery Resources Board

The Cemetery Resources Board met on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Small
Conference Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal, 320 E. McCarty Street,
Jefferson City, Missouri.
Chairman Steven Wells called the meeting to order.
Welcome New Board Member:
Chairman Steven Wells welcomed Sherri Cook to the Cemetery Resources Board
Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the September 18, 2014 meeting by Mark
Schreiber, seconded by Nancy Thompson. Minutes were approved.
Old Business:
David Grellner gave a power point presentation on the Cemetery Restoration Project completed
in 2014. The presentation gave before and after pictures of the thirty-one stones that were
restored in the Woodland/Old City Cemetery.
New Business:
The Cemetery Resources Board approved the 2015 meeting date calendar. Meetings were
tentatively scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2015 and September 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
David Grellner discussed that an Annual Cemetery Resources Board Report has been
requested to be filed in July of each year to City Council. A rough draft of a report was reviewed
by the Cemetery Board Members for editing and approval.
The cemetery maintenance contract was also reviewed by the Cemetery Resources Board.
The current contract will end this fall and a new contract will be sent out for bids.
David Grellner presented the next cemetery restoration project for 2015. The Clark Mausoleum
has been selected for the next project for restoration. Bids will be received from contractors
who specialize in cemetery restoration this spring.

Discussion occurred between Board members and staff about setting up a cemetery work day
which would involve individuals who could help with restoration and groups, such as the Boy
Scouts and Girl Scouts, who could help with cemetery maintenance and beautification. A walk
through of the Woodland/Old City Cemetery was tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 14,
2015 at 9:00 a.m. to discuss projects in the cemetery.
Nancy Thompson gave a list of individuals in unmarked graves in Woodland/Old City Cemetery.
Discussion occurred about placing names on the Remembrance Monument in the cemetery or
providing a donated stone to those in unmarked graves if a location could be identified. Nancy
brought in a grave stone as an example. Mark Schreiber mentioned the placing of a flag pole
in Longview Cemetery. David Grellner mentioned maybe this could be an Eagle Scout project.
Mark and Sherri discussed what is needed to install a flag pole.
Election of Vice -Chairman:
The Board agreed to select a new Vice -Chairman at the Cemetery Resource Board meeting in
June.
Other Topics and Issues:
Upon further discussion it was decided to meet as a Board April 14, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at the
Woodland/Old City Cemetery to hold a quick meeting and to discuss restoration.
