Donation of 1936 Ford Fire truck and Phone Booth The 1936 Ford truck, from what I was told, once belonged to Pan Am Airways, and was located at the Dinner Key site. The Key Biscayne Volunteer Fire Department purchased the truck from Pan Am. I have a letter regarding the purchase from one of the past KBVFD Fire Chiefs. The "Truck" after serving the Volunteer Fire Dept. during the early 1950's was then used by the Silver Sands as a lawn advertisement for the Motel. Then, from rumors that I have heard , was driven many late nights around the Island by a mysterious woman resident. (it is a convertible) The "Truck" then sat many years behind the old Citgo gas station through many Hurricanes and flooding. The old Citgo Station is now where the current Village Fire Station exists. The "Truck" then vanished. Many years later 1988? I received a call from a gentleman in Hollywood, Florida who said he had the old truck and wanted to know if I wished to buy such vehicle. I was then a Captain with the Key Biscayne Volunteer Fire Department. Neither the KB Volunteer Dept ,nor I, had funds to buy such a vehicle at that time. Several years later, I received another call from the same gentleman and was told "If you want the truck come and get it." I picked up the "Truck". It was in pieces, and still is. I stored the truck behind the Presbyterian church for a few years, then behind the Village Fire Department ( when we were in the trailers), then in my own back yard. The truck is now in a warehouse off of NW 27th Avenue and NW 92 Street in Miami. I will donate the "Truck" to the Key Biscayne Historical Heritage Society Inc. in hopes that this "Truck " will once again show the residents of Key Biscayne that we have come a long way in terms of Fire Service for this community. I wish to continue in serving as a "point person" in the restoration of this vehicle, and will solicit the help of others. Some items of future considerations: Insurance .. There are several companies that will insure Antique Vehicles.. I have a policy with the St. Paul Companies that insure my other old vehicles.. very reasonable.. apx $300.00 per year for full coverage . The Truck can stay in the warehouse at no charge during the restoration process. I also "own" the original wooden PHONE BOOTH from the Island. This too will be at the warehouse and is in need of restoration. I will donate this as well. This wooden Phone Booth was said to have been the "First and only" phone located on Key Biscayne. I was told that it was originally located on the corner of Glenridge Road and West Wood Drive Get the MapQuest Toolbar, Maps, Traffic, Directions & More! http://webmail.aol.com/35790/aol/en-us/Mail/PrintMessage.aspx 4/7/2008 Page 1 of 1 From: reelmedic@aol.com To: boblbaby@yahoo.com; Reelmedic@aol.com Date: Mon, 7 Apr 2008 5:34 pm Ron Erbel 786 Fernwood Road Key Biscayne, Florida 33149 305 361-8733 April 07, 2008 Key Biscayne Historical Heritage Society Inc.
