Leesburg, VA (June 28, 2010) - Start your July 4th with a bang! The 2010 Town of Leesburg’s 20th annual Independence Day Celebration will be held on Sunday, July 4th 2010. Show your patriotic spirit at the annual Independence Day Parade, held through Historic Downtown Leesburg. The parade will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Ida Lee Park, travel south down King Street and conclude at Fairfax Street. Put on your patriotic best and join your friends and neighbors to celebrate the birthday of the United States! Once again, Toth Financial will be sponsoring a performance of the popular fife and drum corps, the American Originals, at 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of King and Market Streets, prior to the start of the parade. Grab a viewing spot early and enjoy their unique renditions of patriotic favorites. This year’s parade will feature the 3rd annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by Leesburg Today newspaper. This award will go to the best parade entry. The winning entry will receive a banner to carry during the parade and their name will be engraved on the Patriot Cup. If you are interested in participating in the parade, entry is free! Please contact Ida Lee Park Recreation Center for an application or visit TOL PR 2010-06-28 Independence Day celebration Page 2 www.leesburgva.gov/index.aspx?page=568 for an online version. King Street will close to through traffic at 1:30 p.m. in preparation for the parade; streets will re-open at approximately 3:30 p.m. The excitement and fun continues at Ida Lee Park at 6:00 p.m. when the gates open for the “Celebration in the Park.” Celebrate America’s big day at Ida Lee Park while listening to the tunes of up-and-coming country act Savannah Jack. This family-friendly, nationally touring band has opened for Kenny Rogers, Vince Gill, John Fogerty and other country greats. With their debut single hitting the airwaves in May, the Town of Leesburg is proud to have Savannah Jack headline the Independence Day Celebration. Be sure to grab a bite at the event as plenty of food vendors will be on hand. Nothing tastes better on the 4th of July than burgers, hotdogs, ice cream and funnel cake. Other culinary favorites will be available, including tacos, BBQ, smoothies, and stir fry. The biggest bangs of the evening begin at 9:30 p.m. when the largest fireworks show in the area lights up the sky. Choreographed to patriotic music, this light show is not to be missed. Parking is available at the interior lots off Ida Lee Drive, and the festival field parking off King Street. The Town of Leesburg staff will work hard to insure that as many vehicles as possible are parked in the park, so attendees are asked to be patient while waiting to enter and exit. For safety reasons, the Town reminds pedestrians attending the fireworks show to use designated cross walks. Leesburg Fire and Rescue Volunteers will be on site to provide medical assistance, if needed. Coolers and large bags are permitted but will be checked at gate entrances. Pets, alcohol, glass bottles and personal fireworks (including sparklers) are not permitted. In the event of rain, fireworks will be rescheduled for July 5th at 9:30pm. No other activities will be rescheduled.
