HomeMy Public PortalAbout16-02 LIMITING THE NUMBER OF CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS 1st Reading: November 12, 2016 2' Reading: January 13, 2016 Public Hearing: January 13, 2016 Adopted: January 13, 2016 Effective Date: January 13, 2016 Sponsored by: Mayor Taylor and Commissioner Santiago ORDINANCE NO. 16-02 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, AMENDING ARTICLE II SECTION 2-45 BY CREATING ARTICLE II SECTION 2-45 (D), LIMITING THE NUMBER OF CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS (RESOLUTIONS) A MEMBER OF THE CITY COMMISSION MAY SPONSOR PER COMMISSION MEETING; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICT AND REPEALER; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, desires to function in an efficient and meaningful manner during commission meetings; and WHEREAS, There is a need to ensure that the time of the Commission, residents and others who attend commission meetings is utilized in a more productive manner; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference; Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby amends Article II Section 2-45 by creating Article II Section 2-45 (d) to read as follows: The Number of Consent Agenda Items to be Sponsored by Each Member of the City Commission: Each member of the City Commission shall be permitted to sponsor four (4) consent agenda items per commission meeting. Ordinance No. 16-02 Section 3. All ordinances or Code provisions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section 4. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this Ordinance. Section 5. CODIFICATION. This Ordinance shall be codified in the Code of Ordinances when the code is recodified. Section 6. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall upon adoption, become effective immediately. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 13th day of January, 2016.
