Planning and Zoning Commission
Wednesday September 3, 2008
Tiffin Fire Department Meeting Room
Chairperson of Planning an d Zoning Commission Steve Berner called meeting to order at
6:30pm.
Roll Call of members: Present Steve Berner, Shawna Colvin, Melvin Reeve, and
Stephanie Surine. Absent-Jim Schmidt. '
Also present: Mayor Royce Phillips, Council members Jim Bartels, Mark Petersen, John
Wright, and Residential Building Inspector Ed Johnson.
Motion Reeve seconded by Surine to approve Agenda: All actions passed with all ayes
unless so otherwise indicated.
Motion Colvin seconded by Berner to approve minutes of Joint P&Z and City Council
meeting on August 6, 2008.
Jim Schmidt arrived at 6:35 pm.
No discussion or action taken on old business.
New business Members'discussed and reviewed request from resident Douglas Shalla
for a variance for the garden shed built on a concrete pad near the front of his lot at 312
Stephans St. Copies of Mr Shalla's letter and correspondence from the Residential
Building Inspector Ed Johnson had been distributed to the Commission members.
Members asked Johnson for clarification on Zoning Ordinance and Residential Building
' Codes regarding the building. Motion by Berner seconded by Reeve to recommend not
granting variance for building and request to move building to the rear•of property to not
set precedence for allowing building to remain at current location. Roll call of members
., in favor of recommendation. Ayes: Berner, Reeve, Schmidt, and Surine. Nayes: Colvin.
Schmidt updated members on progress of Songbird easements regarding the drainage
remediation affecting Songbird residents and the Allen family.
Motion Schmidt seconded Surine for adjournment at 6:53pm.
