Parker, AICP Assistant to the Town Manager sparker@leesburgva.gov 703-771-2771 Leesburg Town Council to Discuss Downtown Improvement Project at July 12, 2010, Work Session Leesburg, VA (July 9, 2010) – The Town of Leesburg Town Council will be discussing the ongoing downtown improvement efforts at its work session on Monday, July 12, 2010. This effort follows three stakeholders meetings where the Town and its consultant on the project, AECOM, received significant public input on the direction of the proposed infrastructure improvement projects. The first stakeholder meeting, held on March 17, 2010, at the Lightfoot Restaurant, was a full-day series of meetings that started with a survey of all participants regarding their likes and dislikes of the downtown, as well as where they see the projects going. With that information, AECOM developed preliminary project designs which were unveiled for the first time at the second stakeholder meeting on May 13, 2010. Using the additional input received at the second meeting on the emerging projects, the third stakeholders meeting was held June 16, 2010. While some disagreements still remain on the disposition of King Street, consensus is high on a majority of the proposals. “We have reached a point in our project where the elected officials will weigh in,” said Scott Parker, Assistant to the Town Manager, and Project Manager for the improvements. “We have received invaluable input and ideas from the well-attended stakeholder events, and it’s time for the next step.” Town staff hopes to have direction soon on a first set of projects to begin final design, with construction tentatively set to start in 2011. A link to the staff report on the project can be found in the “Related Docments” section of the project webpage on the Town’s website at www.leesburgva.gov/index.aspx?page=982.
