HomeMy Public PortalAbout1997_06_10_O020 Amending Sections 6-1 and 6-2 regarding Voting PlacesThe Town of Leesburg, Virginia ORDINANCE NO. 97-0-20 PRESENTED June 10, 1997 ADOPTED June 10, 1997 AN ORDINANCE: AMENDING SECTIONS 6-1 AND 6-2 OF THE TOWN CODE REGARDING VOTING PLACES WHEREAS, Section 6-1 of the Town Code establishes voting precincts in the Town of Leesburg; and WHEREAS, Section 6-2 of the Town Code establishes voting places for elections in the Town of Leesburg; and WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Electoral Board has recommended that one polling place be changed and a second precinct and polling place be created within the Town of Leesburg; and WHEREAS, a notice of intent to amend the town's voting precincts and polling places was published on May 28, 1997 and June 4, 1997, in accordance with state law; and WHEREAS, the Electoral Board has also requested a change in the name~ of a polling place. THEREFORE, ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. Section 6-1 of the Town Code is hereby amended as follows: Sec. 6-1. Precincts. There shall be al× seven voting precincts in the municipality as follows: (a) Precinct Number 501, West Leesburg. Beginning at the westernmost junction of State Route 7 and the western corporate limit of the Town of Leesburg; 2 AN ORDINANCE: AMENDING SECTIONS 6-1 AND 6-2 OF THE TOWN CODE... thence north and east along the corporate limit of the Town of Leesburg to its junction with U.S. Business Route 15, also known as North King Street; thence south along U.S. Business Route 15, also known as North King Street, crossing State Route 7, to the junction of U.S. Business Route 15, or South King Street, with Davis Avenue; thence west on Davis Avenue to its junction with Valley View Avenue; thence north on Valley View Avenue to its junction with Catoctin Circle; thence west on Catoctin Circle to its junction with Dry Mill Road; thence north on Dry Mill Road to its junction with the Town Branch; thence west along the Town Branch to its junction with the western extension of Catoctin Circle; thence north along Catoctin Circle to State Route 7; thence west on State Route 7 to the point of beginning at the westernmost junction of the western corporate limit of the Town of Leesburg and State Route 7. (b) Precinct Number 502, East Leesburg. $ AN ORDINANCE: AMENDING SECTIONS 6-1 AND 6-2 OF THE TOWN CODE... Beginning at the junction of Route 7 (Market Street) and Catoefin Circle; thence north along Catoctin Circle to its intersection with Battlefield Parkway; thence east along Battlefield Parkway to its intersection with U.S. Route 15 Bypass; thence southeast along U.S. Route 15 Bypass to its junction with State Route 7 Business; thence west along State Route 7 Business (East Market Street) to the point of beginning at its junction with Catoctin Circle. (c) Precinct Number 503, Dry Mill. Beginning at the westernmost junction of the western corporate boundary of the Town of Leesburg and State Route 7; thence east on State Route 7, which is West Market Street, to its junction with Catoctin Circle; thence south on Catoctin Circle to its junction with the Town Branch; thence east along the Town Branch to its junction with Dry Mill Road; thence south along Dry Mill Road to its junction with Catoctin Circle; thence east on Catoctin Circle to its junction with Valley View Avenue; thence south on Valley View Avenue to its junction with Davis Avenue; thence east on Davis Avenue to its junction with U.S. Business Route 15, also known as South King Street; thence south along U.S. Business Route 15 to its junction with State Route 7 Bypass; thence west along State Route 7 Bypass to State Route 7 Business and the point of the 4 AN ORDINANCE: AMENDING SECTIONS 6-1 AND 6-2 OF THE TOWN CODE... beginning at the junction of State Route 7 and the western corporate limit of the Town of Leesburg. (d) Precinct Number 504, Oakcrest. Beginning at the junction of State Route 7 (Market Street) and U.S. Route 15 Business (King Street) in the center of the Town of Leesburg; thence north along U.S. Route 15 Business to its junction with U.S. Route 15 Bypass; thence southeast along U.S. Route 15 Bypass to its junction with Battlefield Parkway; thence west along Battlefield Parkway to its intersection with Catoctin Circle; thence south along Catoctin Circle, crossing State Route 7 .(Market Street), to its junction with U.S. Route 15 Business (South King Street); thence north along U.S. Route 15 Business (South King Street) to the point of beginning at its junction with State Route 7 (Market Street) in the center of the Town of Leesburg (d e) Precinct Number 201, Simpson. Beginning at the junction of U.S. Route 15 and Catoctin Circle; thence east along Catoctin Circle to its junction with State Route 7; thence southeast along State Route 7 to its intersection with the eastern corporate limit; thence south and west along the corporate limit to its intersection with U.S. Route 15; thence north along U.S. Route 15 to the point of the beginning at U.S. Route 15 and Catoctin Circle. (e _f) Precinct Number 405, Greenway. Beginning at the westernmost junction of State Route 7 and the western corporate limit; thence east on State Route 7 to its junction with Catoctin Circle; thence south on Catoctin Circle to its junction with the Town Branch; AN ORDINANCE: AMENDING SECTIONS 6-1 AND 6-2 OF THE TOWN CODE... thence east along the Town Branch to its intersection with Dry Mill Road; thence south along Dry Mill Road to its intersection with Catoctin Circle; thence east along Catoctin Circle to its intersection with Valley View Avenue; thence south on Valley View Avenue to its intersection with Davis Avenue; thence east on Davis Avenue to its intersection with State Route 15; thence south on State Route 15 to the southern corporate limit; thence west and north along the corporate limit to the point of beginning at the westernmost junction of State Route 7 and the western corporate limit. (f_g) Precinct Number 406, Balls Bluff. Beginning at the junction of State Route 15 Bypass and the northern corporate limit; thence south along the Route 15 Bypass to its intersection with State Route 7; thence east along State Route 7 to the eastern corporate limit; thence north and west along the corporate limit to the point of beginning at the Route 15 Bypass and the northern corporate limit. SECTION II. Section 6-2 of the Town Code is hereby amended as follows: Sec. 6-2. Voting places. The election of municipal officials and the voting place for such election in Precinct Number 501, West Leesburg, shall be at the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Department Building, 215 Loudoun Street, S.W.; the election of municipal officials and the voting place for such election in Precinct Number 502, East Leesburg, shall be at the T I~2 Sc, ut~ Catcct:ln C:,rclc Shenandoah Office Building, 102 Heritage Way, N.E.; the election of municipal officials and the voting place for such election in Precinct Number 503, Dry Mill, shall be at the r, e ha ..... Children's Center Road, S.W.; the election of municipal officials and the voting place for such election in Precinct Number 504, Oakcrest, shall be at St. John's Catholic Church, 101 Oakcrest Manor Drive., N.E.; the election of municipal officials and the voting place for such election in Precinct Number 201, Simpson, shall be the J. Lupton Simpson Middle School, 18 Evergreen Mill Road, S.E.; the election of municipal officials and the voting place for such election in Precinct Number 405, Greenway, shall be the Leesburg Baptist Church, 835 Lee Avenue, S.W.; and the election of municipal officials and the voting place for such election in Precinct Number 406, Balls Bluff, shall be Ball' s Bluff Elementary School, 821 Battlefield Parkway, N.E.
