AN ORDINANCE: PRESENTED June 213, 1998 98-0- 1/+ ADOPTED June 213, 1998 AMENDING SECTIONS 17-169(a) AND (b) AND 17-177 (b) OF CHAPTER 17 OF THE LEESBURG TOWN CODE, RELATING TO THE BUSINESS, PROFESSIONAL, AND OCCUPATIONAl_, LICENSE TAX WHEREAS, amendments to Sections 17-169 (a) and (b) and 17-177 (b) of the business, professional, and occupational license tax are required in accordance with the 1998 Acts of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia. THEREFORE, ORDAINED by the Town Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. Chapter 17 of the Uniform BPOL Ordinance, Section 17-169 (a) and (b) are hereby amended as follows: Sec. 17-169. License Fee and Tax. Every person or business subject to licensure under this article shall be assessed and required to pay annually the greater of: (a) A fee for the issuance of such license in the amount of $20.00 and; (b) ~" ~'~'~:~:~- '~ '~'~ ~: ..... *' ...... :~:~.~: .... t.~:^~ ~ ~t. ...... a Except as may be otherwise provided in {}58.1-3712, 58.1-3712.1 and 58.1-3713 of the Code of Virginia, every such person or business shall be assessed and required to pay annually a license tax on all the gross receipts of such persons includable as provided in this article at a rate set forth below for the class of enterprise listed: Section 17-177 of the Uniform BPOL Ordinance, is hereby amended as SECTION II. follows: Sec. 17-177. Contractors and contracting. (b) Pursuant to §58.1-3714 of the Code of Virginia, the Town of Leesburg shall require every_ contractor to provide written certification at the time of any application for issuance or reissuance ORDINANCE: -2- AMENDING THE BPOL ORDINANCE of a business license that such contractor is in compliance with the provisions of Chapter 8 of Title 65.2 of the Code of Virginia and will remain in compliance with such provisions at all times during the effective period of any such business license. Any person who knowingly presents or causes to be presented a false certificate shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor. SECTION III. This ordinance shall be in effect upon its passage.
