HomeMy Public PortalAbout1998_06_23_O015 The Town of Leesburg, Virginia ORDINANCE NO. 98- o- 15 PRESENTED June 23, 1998 ADOPTED June 23, 1998 AN ORDINANCE: AMENDING SECTION 2-86.1 OF THE TOWN CODE PERTAINING TO BAD CHECK FEE WHEREAS, Senate Bill 36, adopted during the 1998 session of the General Assembly allows localities to raise the fee for passing a bad check to the locality from $20.00 to $25.00. THEREFORE, ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. Chapter 2, Article VI, Department of Finance, Section 2-86.1 of the Town Code is hereby amended as follows: Sec. 2-86.1 Bad check fee. The finance director is authorized to collect a fee of $29.99 $25.00 for uttering, publishing or passing of any check or draft for payment of town taxes or any other sum due, which is subsequently returned for insufficient funds or because there is no account or the account has been closed. This fee is to be collected from the person who gives a check or draft for such payment. The finance director may also refuse to accept checks as a form of payment from anyone who has twice given such checks to the town within a period of two years. SECTION II.
