HomeMy Public PortalAbout1999_04_27_O011 Amending the Town Code Regarding Parking Meters The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED April 27, 1999 ORDINANCE NO. 99-0-11 ADOPTED April 27, 1999 AN ORDINANCE: AMENDING SECTION 10-176(a) OF THE TOWN CODE REGARDING OCCUPANCY OF METER PARKING SPACES WHEREAS, the 1999 General Assembly passed a Joint Resolution encouraging localities to offer free parking for veterans having license plates bearing Purple Heart and P.O.W. designations; and WHEREAS, the Leesburg Town Council desires to accommodate the request of the House of Delegates and Senate of the Commonwealth by allowing such veterans free parking at town parking meters. THEREFORE, ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. Sec. 10-176 of the Town Code is amended as follows: Sec. 10-176. Deposit of coin; occupancy of metered space; etc. (a) The owner or operator of a vehicle, upon entering a parking meter space marked as provided in this division with his vehicle, during the time parking meters are in operation, as provided by Section 10-175, shall immediately deposit a coin or combination of coins of the United States in the parking meter situated at the side of the parking meter space so entered and shall operate the parking meter according to the instruction thereon. Failure to comply with such requirements shall be unlawful. However, vehicles with Virginia license plates bearing Purple Heart or former P.O.W. designations shall be allowed to park at such metered parking spaces free of charge. SECTION II.
