AUTHORIZING THE EXTENSION OF THE
PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX PAYMENTS
PRESENTED September 28, 1999

DUE DATE FOR 1999
WHEREAS, in 1998 the General Assembly enacted the Personal Property Tax Relief Act to
provide tax relief to citizens for personal property taxes paid on personal vehicles; and
WHEREAS, in order for the town to comply with the provisions of this Act extensive changes
were necessary to be made to the town's tax billing system; and
WHEREAS, these billing system changes have taken longer than expected to complete causing
considerable delays in the preparation of the 1999 personal property tax bills; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 58.1-3912 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended, the
local treasurer is required to send each taxpayer a tax bill no later than fourteen days prior to the due date;
and

WHEREAS, the 1999 personal property tax bills were prepared for mailing on September 24,
THEREFORE, ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows:
SECTION I. The due date for 1999 personal property taxes is extended from October 5, 1999,
to October 29, 1999.
SECTION II.
PASSED this 28th day of September, 1999.
