ADDING SECTION 10-97 TO THE TOWN
ENGINE BRAKES ("JAKE BRAKES")
PRESENTED February 8, 2000

CODE RELATING
TO
WHEREAS, the application of engine brakes ("Jake brakes") creates loud, excessive and
unnecessary noise; and
WHEREAS, prohibition of the application of engine brakes is authorized by Sections
15.2-1102 and 46.2-1300 of the Code of Virginia.
THEREFORE, IT IS ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as
follows:

SECTION I. Sec. 10-97. Application of engine brakes is added as follows:
Sec. 10-97. Application of engine brakes.
(i) It shall be unlawful for the driver of any motor vehicle to apply engine
brakes ("Jake brakes") within the limits of the town except when responding to
bona fide emergency occurrences.
SECTION II. This ordinance shall be effective upon adoption.
ADOPTED this 8th day of February, 2000.
