HomeMy Public PortalAbout2003_01_28_O001The Town of Leesburg, irg ma ORDINANCE NO. 2003-O-1 AN ORDINANCE: PRESENTED January_ 28, 2003 ADOPTED January 28, 2003 ESTABLISHING A COUNCIL RULE OF ORDER REGARDING VOTING ON A NEW BUSINESS ITEM WHEREAS, the Town Council proceedings are generally governed by Robert's Rules of Order, latest edition, as stated in Town Code Section 2-24.2; and WHEREAS, from time to time the Town Council has established additional rules; and WHEREAS, the Council seeks to clarify its rules of order regarding a vote on a new business item; and WHEREAS, Section 2-7 of the Town Charter may require that rules be adopted by ordinance; and WHEREAS, the Town Council from time to time has adopted rules by resolution and the Council wishes to ratify such rules. THEREFORE, ORDAINED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that follows: SECTION I. When a Council member introduces an item of new business for a vote at the same meeting, the item must have the unanimous consent of those members present before proceeding. So that the Council can have advance notice and staff the opportunity to prepare, the Council prefers that such an item be listed on the agenda except under the most pressing circumstances.
