HomeMy Public PortalAbout11/12/1991 public hearing" " CITY OF GREENCASTLE Public Hearing November 12, 1991 The City of Greencastle conducted a public hearing on Tuesday, November 12, 1991 at 4:30 p.m. at the GTE building. Present for the proceedings were: Mayor Harmless, Clerk - Treasurer Berry, Charles Chandler, Connie Finney, Carole Penturf, Charlie Cooper, Charles Miles Tim Clark, Joyce Heeke, Max Johnson, John Wood, Jo VanDerSnick, Jackie Jackson, Kay Sligh. The purpose of the hearing was to receive comments and questions concerning application to the Indiana Housing Finance Authority for a grant in the amount of $229,280.00 to acquire and rehabilitate sixteen rental houses for low income families and to provide down payment/closing costs assistance monies for low income home ownership in conjunction with Opportunity Housing and the Greencastle Housing Task Force. Mayor Harmless requested any and all comments from the public. Max Johnson of the Greencastle Housing Authority indicated that they would be receiving the additional 30 Section 8 Vouchers as requested, so there is a need. Mr. Cooper indicated that homes in the $30,000.00 to $50,000.00 range are selling, substantiating the target range of down payment /closing costs assistance. Mr. Chandler explained that the down payment /closing costs program may be able to target as many as 50 families if the criteria included a 50 %grant 50 %individual match with a maximum of $2,500.00. The consensus of opinion in the group was to use the 50 %/50% formula. Further discussion occurred with Ms. Jackson and Ms. Sligh expressing interest in the down payment /closing costs assistance.
