AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING ALADDIN STREET FROM
CALIPH STREET TO FISHERMAN STREET AS DAVID GRANT
STREET; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF ALL ORDINANCES
IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
PROVIDING FOR INCLUSION IN THE CODE; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, Davis Grant, who passed away on May 21, 2017, owned the barber
shop Kut Above that operated on Fisherman Street for over 17 years; and
WHEREAS, to recognize Davd Grant's contributions to the community, the City of
Opa-Locka("City") desires to designate part of Aladdin Street as David Grant Street; and
WHEREAS, the City finds that it is in the best interest of the City to honor David
Grant by designating part of Aladdin Street as David Grant Street.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. RECITALS
The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
SECTION 2. ADOPTION
Aladdin Street from Caliph Street to Fisherman Street will be designated as David
Grant Street.
SECTION 3. SEVERABILTY
If any clause, section, or other part or application of this Ordinance is held by any
court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, in part or in
application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions or application of
this Ordinance.
SECTION 4. CONFLICT
All ordinances or resolutions or parts of ordinances or resolutions in conflict
herewith, are hereby repealed.
SECTION 5. CODIFICATION
Ordinance No. 18-03
This Ordinance shall be codified in the Code of Ordinances when the code is
recodified.
SECTION 6. SCRIVENER'S ERRORS.
Sections of this Ordinance may be renumbered or re-lettered and corrections of
typographical errors which do not affect the intent may be authorized by the City
Manager, or the City Manager's designee, without need of public hearing, by filing a
corrected or re-codified copy of same with the City Clerk.
SECTION 7. LIBERAL CONSTRUCTION.
The terms and provisions of this Ordinance shall be liberally construed to affect the
purpose for which it is adopted.
SECTION 8. EFFECTIVE DATE.
This Ordinance shall take effect upon the adoption of this Ordinance by the
Commission of the City of Opa-Locka and is subject to the approval of the Governor
or his designee.
This ordinance was moved for adoption by Vice Mayor Kelley. The motion was seconded by
Commissioner Riley, and upon being put to a vote, the motion passed by a 4-1 vote:

CODESIGNATION OF ALADDIN STREET BETWEEN CALIPH
STREET AND FISHERMAN STREET AS DAVID GRANT

WHEREAS, for over 17 years, David Grant owned a barber shop called Kut Above,
located on Fisherman Street in the City of Opa-Locka; and
WHEREAS,Mr. Grant passed away on May 21, 2017; and
WHEREAS,on April 25,2018,the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Opa-Locka
adopted Ordinance No. 18-03, which designated Aladdin Street between Caliph Street and
Fisherman Street as "David Grant Street," in honor and recognition of his contribution to the
community; and
WHEREAS,a copy of Ordinance No. 18-03 is attached hereto and incorporated herein by
reference; and
WHEREAS, Aladdin Street between Caliph Street and Fisherman Street is a city street
located in the City of Opa-Locka; and
WHEREAS, to honor Mr. Grant's contribution to his community, this Board would like
to approve the City of Opa-Locka's codesignation of Aladdin Street between Caliph Street and
Fisherman Street as"David Grant Street"; and
WHEREAS, the City of Opa-Locka would like the County to install signage indicating
this codesignation on County street signs and traffic signal masts arms; and
WHEREAS,this codesignation is located in County Commission District 1,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY,FLORIDA,that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the codesignation by the City of Opa-Locka of Aladdin Street
between Caliph Street and Fisherman Street as"David Grant Street".
Section 3. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to
the Mayor,City Commission,and City Manager of the City of Opa-Locka,the United States Postal
Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Transportation and Public Works
Department, the Development Services Division of the Regulatory and Economic Resources
Department, the City of Opa-Locka Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue
Department.
The Prime Sponsor of the foregoing resolution is Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan.
It was offered by Commissioner Dennis C. Moss , who moved its adoption. The motion
was seconded by Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan and upon being put to a vote,the vote
