Call to order Chair Matt Hughes called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m. Economic Development Planner Shannan Campbell confirmed the presence of a quorum with two members present. 2. Agenda changes and approval There were no changes. Motion: Member Dani Black moved to approve the agenda as submitted. Hughes seconded. Vote: 2-0 3. Minutes review and approval Minutes from Oct. 14 meeting Motion: Black moved to approve the minutes. Hughes seconded. Vote: 2-0 Member Mark Bateman joined the meeting. 4. Action items A. Reappointment of Dani Black Motion: Bateman moved to recommend that Black be reappointed. Hughes seconded. Vote: 3-0 B. 2021 Tourism Development Authority meeting schedule adoption Motion: Black moved to approve the schedule. Bateman seconded. Vote: 3-0 C. Budget adjustment for special projects and partnerships Campbell said $10,000 was allocated for Sundays in Hillsborough. Because that could not happen due to COVID-19, she has been looking into using that money for a mural project. She said that murals meet the Tourism Development Authority Minutes | 2 of 2 strategies of the Strategic Tourism Plan and they create something visually interesting for people to come to town to see. She said it’s also nice because it’s outside and can be enjoyed with social distancing. Campbell said she had looked at a handful of locations and the owner of 109 E. King St. is the first to be ready to move forward. The building, owned by Womack Publishing, is home to The News of Orange County. Her staff recommendation was to move $4,600 from the Sundays in Hillsborough project allocation to the mural project. After approval, staff would put out a request for qualifications to find an artist. At least one person from the authority is needed to join a subcommittee to pick the artist. Campbell added that she thinks the mural would be related to history and publishing or news. Motion: Black moved to approve the reallocation of $4,600 as proposed. Bateman seconded. Vote: 3-0 Bateman expressed interest in serving on the subcommittee and would like to see preference given to a local artist. Hughes also expressed interest in serving on the subcommittee. 5. Monthly reports A. Staff report and occupancy tax numbers Campbell said August and September occupancy revenues were down. She reviewed upcoming events and advertisements. B. Board comments There was none. 6. Adjournment Motion: Bateman moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:53 p.m. Black seconded. Vote: 3-0
