Also present were W. H. Hebb,.Blllage Nana ger; Mary,Hetterer, Village Clerk, and Fred•BsAsdea, Tillage Attorney. The Mayor, Mr., Robert C. 'Graham, Jr., gelled the 'meeting to-order and-aaked for a report of the election held May 11;1951. The Pillage Clerk reported thaVat the close of the election "the ballots were counted by the election clerkmi;Conetance D.,Woreester awd Barbara R. Whitman and, herself in the presence of witnesses end that 61 votes °were cast out 'of, a possible 69. Of these Harry A. Brown received votes; George A. iecmard, 48;' Albert E. Schrader 31; Edware G. Stokelyp 41; and Clair Darrees, 1. Under the terms of the.chart'er Dr. Leonard and Mr.. Stokely will serve for four years until the eldotion of k. 1955 and Mr. Brown, together with 141. Beatty abd Mtr. Simons will serve until the election of 1953. Mr., Graham then asked that the new members, Mr. Brown and Dr Leonard take the anti- communistic oath which was administered.by.iiie Clerk. The oath of office was taken by all the councilmen. Mr.,Graham said that before he asked for a temporary chairman to take ever the meeting,he would like to take this opportunit7'to eon grotulate the new members of the council mad wish then every success". He said that In the last yeara.Bal HaAcur, had been coming into.its ' own and now had really reached matuaity. Mr. Simone wished to express his thanks and that of the other members to Mr. Graham: and Mr. Whittaker for the sltendid cooperation . they had received from them in the past years and hoped that they had received the same cooperation from them. Mr. Beatty said he wished to express his thanks also. r Mr. Stokely said that he was very happy to see two such fine man- ' "- ' $oin the council, but was very sorry to see two equally fine men leave the group. And that he thought particular thanks should be given to Mr. George Whittaker for the part he had played on the village council.'. inasmuch as they all knew what an effort it was for him to "eome,way out here to the meetings. MAY '2A.- 1953 k, Mr. Whittaker admitted that.at times it was rather hard to make the meetings, but that it had beea a: pleasure to derve with them and to have worked with Mr. Graham, Sri'lu preparing the plans and developing the village and that he sure he.kas leaving the affairs, of the village in good hands. Mr. Graham, dr. expressed,agin his pleasure in being,present.at. this.meeting as he didn't gxpect to,.be in town at this time. Ae;them, called for nominations for a temporary chairman to take over the meating before vleoUug a new sayer. It ,was moved by Mr Beatty, seconded Mr. Stokely, that Mr. Grahame 7r. continue to preside as chairman. Mr. Baisdla4 said „that this was not possible and the new council would,bive'to appoint. a cheituda among themselves. It was then moved by Mr. Simons, seconded by Dr., Leonard,,that Mr. Stokely be.,appointed as temporary chairman of the meeting, and unanimously: passed. Mr. Stokely-then took the chair and asked that nominations be made for,the office of Mayor for Bal Harbour, Village. It was moved try Mr. Slmons, seconded by Mr., Beatty, that Mr. Ydward G. Stokely be nominated for mayor. Mr.'Brown moved that the,nominations be closed.` It v4 moved by Br teeuard, seconded by Mr. Hroi+aa thst Mr. Stokely be unanimously electe,'3lror of Bal Harbour Village. Mr. Stokely then took the oath of office for Mayor. The Mayor. then called far nominations'for.Assistant Mayor. It was moved -by fir. Simons, seconded b, Mr. Beai�y, that Dr. George N. Leonard, be appoin$ed"AS. Assistant Mayor of Bal Harbour. Mr. Brown moved that the nominations ' be closed and upon vote Dr. Leonard was unanimously elected Assistant Mayor of Bal Harbour.
