A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY,
CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,
EXTENDING AN INVITATION TO THE CITY OF
MAGDALENA, SONORA, MEXICO TO BECOME A
SISTER -CITY IN THE PEOPLE -TO- PEOPLE
PROGRAM AND INVITING THE PEOPLE OF
MAGDALENA TO PARTICIPATE IN SAID PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the "People -to- People Program" was established
by the President of the United States at the White House in 1956
to establish greater friendship and understanding between the
peoples of the United States and other nations through the medium
of direct personal contact, and
WHEREAS, it is the desire and wish of the people of
Temple City tc implement this program and to exchange hands of
friendship and comaraderie with the people of Magdalena as Sister
Cities, and
WHEREAS, it is the purpose of the aforesaid affilia-
tion to embark upon and activate joint programs of various ex-
changes and personal contacts between the people of the Sister
Cities with a view to promote mutual understanding, respect and
friendship between them, and
:WHEREAS, Temple City, through its Council, does recog-
nize and endorse this program with the hope that it will lead to
a lasting friendship between the people of Temple City and
Magdalena
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE
CITY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE THAT:
SECTION 1. This Council, on behalf of the people of
Temple City, hereby extends an invitation to the Government and
the people of the City of Magdalena to participate with the
Government and the people of the City of Temple City as Sister
Cities in the "People -to- People Program" for the purpose of
creating good will and understanding between the people of our
two cities, states, and nations.
SECTION 2. The Mayor and the Chairman of the Sister
City Committee are hereby authorized to act as official repre-
sentatives of Temple City to carry out this program.
SECTION 3. Copies of this Resolution are to be sent
to the Mayor and Council of the City of Magdalena, the American
Municipal Association, the United States Department of State and
the Embassy cf Mexico.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of August, 1964.
