A RESOLUTION: APPROPRIATING TREE BANK FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,500
FOR TRANSPLANTING TREES FROM THE BATTLEFIELD
PARKWAY/EAST MARKET STREET INTERCHANGE PROJECT TO
AREAS DAMAGED BY THE FEBRUARY 2020 TORNADO
WHEREAS, an EF-0 tornado impacted the northeast quadrant of Leesburg on February 7,
2020 causing damage to mature trees in both Robinson Park and in right of way at the intersection
of Battlefield Parkway and the Route 15 Bypass; and
WHEREAS, there are a number of mature trees that are to be removed from the Battlefield
Parkway/East Market Street interchange project; and
WHEREAS, the trees to be removed are good candidates to be transplanted; and
WHEREAS, funding in the amount of $15,500 is requested from the Tree Bank to cover a
portion of the transplantation of the trees from the interchange project to Robinson Park and the
Battlefield Parkway/Route 15 bypass intersection; and
WHEREAS, no additional funding beyond the Tree Bank funding and those already in the
operating budgets of the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Department of Public Works
and Capital Projects is needed.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the
Town Council authorize an appropriation from the Tree Bank Reserve to the General Fund in the
amount of $15,500 for the transplanting of trees from the Route 7 interchange project to other public
land in the Town.
