HomeMy Public PortalAbout05.15.2013 Park Commission MinutesMedina Park Commission Meeting Minutes May 15, 2013 Park Tour Page 1 of 2 The Park Commission of Medina, Minnesota met in special session with the Medina City Council on May 15, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. beginning at Medina City Hall for their annual Park Tour. Park Commission Chair Paul Jaeb presided. 1) Call to Order Commissioners Present: Commissioners Absent: Also Present: 2) Additions to the Agenda Paul Jaeb, Ellis Olkon, Madeleine Linck, Ann Thies, and Steve Lee Dino DesLauriers and Janet White City Administrator Scott Johnson, Assistant to City Administrator Jodi Gallup, Public Works Director Steve Scherer, Public Works Foreman Ivan Dingmann and the City Council — None 3) Annual Tour of Parks The City Council and Medina Park Commission toured the following parks and made these observations: Tomann Preserve • Walked the trail to the back rock picnic area and requested a thank you note be sent to Terry Tomann for doing such a great job maintaining the property. • Discussed obtaining an easement or purchasing a section of the adjacent property to access the trail that loops around the back side of the property. The Park at Fields of Medina • Discussed that the potential future water tower should be placed as close to Meander Road as possible. • Noted that this park would have sufficient space for the planned amenities such as a soccer field, sport court, playground equipment, picnic shelters and trails. Navajo Trail • Walked the trail easement that was the old Navajo Road. • Noted that the trail was sufficiently wide and well shaded by an established tree line from residents' back yards. Hunter Lions Park • Noted how nice it was to see the ball field and park being used. Walk through trail in Enclave Development to Hamel Legion Park • Noted that the homes in the neighborhood along the trail to the park were completely built out and there was a lot of pedestrian activity in the neighborhood. Medina Park Commission Meeting Minutes May 15, 2013 Park Tour Page 2of2 • Discussed that Lennar has proposed the trail through the nature area be called, "Harriet's Trail" after the previous owner of the property Harriet Holasek. Hamel Legion Park • Discussed the location for the new message center sign. It was determined that it should be located by the trail across from the playground equipment since it is a central location. • Looked at the dugouts at the Hawk's baseball field where the concrete roofs were cracked and falling and had to be removed. • Looked at the new cement slab where the batting cage is being installed. 4) Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m. Minutes prepared by Jodi Gallup.
