2nd Annual “Dog Swim” at A.V. Symington Aquatic Center
Planned for Saturday, September 11, 2010
Proceeds will fund improvements at the Leesburg Dog Park
Leesburg, VA (September 8, 2010) – On Saturday, September 11, 2010, Leesburg Dogs, Inc. will
host the second annual Dog Swim at the A.V. Symington Aquatic Center in Leesburg’s Ida Lee
Park. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 per dog, with a
limit of two dogs per family. Children under 8 years of age will not be allowed at the Dog Swim,
due to expected rambunctiousness of the dogs.
In 2009, members of Leesburg Dogs, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports the
Leesburg Dog Park, approached the Leesburg Parks & Recreation Department about the
possibility of holding a “dog swim” at Leesburg’s new outdoor pool, the A.V. Symington Aquatic
Center, after the pool closed for the season and before the pool would be winterized. Since the
group proposed to use the proceeds from the event for improvements at the Leesburg Dog
Park, the Town readily agreed to partner with them on the new event. The Dog Swim is
organized and managed entirely by volunteers from Leesburg Dogs, Inc.
Over 200 dogs attended the first Dog Swim and nearly $1,200 was raised, which was used to
install a water line and spigot inside the dog park fence. Proceeds from the 2010 Dog Swim will
be used to purchase benches for the dog park, both inside and outside the park fence. In
addition, Leesburg Dogs, Inc. is planning to raise money to replace trees taken down during the
construction of the Dominion Virginia transmission line.
