Meeting Minutes of October 3, 2016 Attendees: Patricia Duarte, Kathy Dlugolecki, Etie Schaub, Curt Morrison Absent: Kathy Laflash Also Present: Maria Casey, HR Director; Connor Degan, Town Clerk The meeting was called to order at 5:32 PM 1) There was no one in attendance for the Community Open Forum. 2) CRC Update — The CRC is interested in including language in the new charter which addresses Diversity & Inclusion. Discussion followed as to how best to present the statement on behalf of the P.C. including specific wording and formatting. Action Item: Present the diversity statement in bullet format. Unanimous vote. 3) Patricia provided a training update. Town wide diversity training is targeted for mid to late November, in order to work around the administration of tax bills and the election. 4) The minutes from the July and September meetings were tabled until next meeting. Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 7th at 5:30 PM. The meeting adjourned at 6:39 PM Submitted by: Kathy Dlugolecki, Clerk Appv'd 11.7.16 MEMORANDUM To: Hopkinton Charter Review Committee From: Hopkinton Personnel Committee Re: Diversity Language Date: October 18, 2016 On October 3, 2016, the Personnel Committee met to discuss its recommendations to the Charter Review Committee regarding the possibility of including Diversity and Inclusion language in the Town Charter. The following is language that the Personnel Committee recommends be included in the Town Charter. These phrases are suggestions and are not intended to be exclusive of any other language that the Charter Review Committee may include. • The Town of Hopkinton is committed to equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. • We are committed to demonstrating those values in all aspects of town governance. • We welcome gender, ethnicity, age, and all other diversity factors. • We encourage diverse candidates for all board and committee appointments. • We will not tolerate discrimination in any form. • We believe a culture of inclusion in town governance contributes to the quality of life in Hopkinton and the many reasons Hopkinton is a great place to live and work.
