The Park Commission of Medina, Minnesota met in special session jointly with the City Council
on May 16, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. to conduct the annual park tour. Park Commission Chair Paul Jaeb
presided.
1) Call to Order
Commissioners Present: Paul Jaeb, Madeleine Linck, Ben Benson, Jean Beaupre,
Bill Waytas, Ann Thies, and Ellis Olkon
Commissioners Absent: None
Also Present: City Administrator Scott Johnson, Public Works
Superintendent Steve Scherer, Assistant to City
Administrator Jodi Gallup, Accounting Technician Teri
Portinen, and the Medina City Council
2) Annual Tour of Parks
The Park Commission and City Council toured the following parks and made these
observations:
Fields of Medina Development (New Park Land)
• The park acreage has potential to increase as surrounding properties develop.
• Parking will be on Meander Road.
• If park has soccer or other play fields, additional parking would need to be
emphasized.
• Need to determine if this will function as a neighborhood park or play area for the
community.
Hamel Legion Park & Nature Area in Enclave Development
• It was nice to see that the park was being heavily used by the athletic programs during
the park tour.
• The gravel lot next to the Hamel Community Building was over half full of cars.
• Need garbage cans by pavilions.
• It was suggested to add a backboard at the tennis courts.
Maple Park
• No changes were noted.
Walnut Park
• It was noted that the park looks better with grass growing instead of sand.

Lakeshore Park/Independence Beach Boat Launch
• Discussed the installation and placement of the gate at the boat launch.
• Discussed reducing the amount of signs in the park and creating new custom signs.
• Noted that the dock would need to be replaced in the near future.
3) Adjourn
The meeting was adjourned at 7. 45 p.m.
