A Notice of Meeting was duly posted. The meeting commenced at 5:40 p.m. In attendance were Claire Wright, Thomas Pratt, and John Palmer, all the members of the Commission. Mrs. Wright presided and Mr. Palmer kept the minutes. The Commission approved the minutes of the meeting held on May 25, 2016. Mr. Palmer will file these minutes with the Town Clerk. Mrs. Wright reported that the Hopkinton Historical Society has requested permission to use Evergreen Cemetery on the evening of October 8, 2016 for a guided-tour event open to the public. The Commission unanimously voted to approve this request. Mrs. Wright reported that a preliminary proposal for a grant of CPC funds for FY 2017 had been submitted earlier this month. The submission was for a grant of $10,000 to continue the project of restoration of damaged cemetery headstones/monuments. The CPC approved an identical request in a prior year. The Commission voted unanimously to approve the submission. Mrs. Wright reported that there have been no developments of note since the time of our last meeting concerning the project to digitize the records of the Town’s cemeteries. She indicated that efforts are now being made to schedule a meeting with various interested parties to initiate the next phase of the project. She also indicated that the CPC had approved $30,000 for the project and only about $3,000 has been spent to date. Mr. Palmer stated that he would investigate a possible solution(s) for reparation of the peeling paint problem on the fence finials at the Main Street Cemetery. He also stated that he would attempt to remove the invasive weed/plant growth among the arborvitae at Section E of the Evergreen Cemetery. A resident complained about this problem. Mrs. Wright reported that 60 headstones on graves of military veterans were successfully cleaned by volunteers on Memorial Day. The next meeting of the Commission will be at the call of the Chair. The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m. Respectfully submitted, John Palmer, Secretary Minutes approved on ________________
