RESOLUTION NO. 65 -441
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY
URGING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO TAKE
SUCH ACTION AS REASONABLY NECESSARY TO
SAVE THE EL MONTE AIRPORT AS A GENERAL
AVIATION FACILITY
WHEREAS, the El Monte Airport facility is the only airport
in the San Gabriel Valley serving the cities of Arcadia, Alhambra,
Azusa, Bradbury, El Monte, Pasadena, Rosemead, San Gabriel, South San
Gabriel, and South El Monte, said cities together constituting a popu-
lation of approximately one million people, and
?JHEREAS, the owner of the El Monte Airport has declared his
intention of closing the El Monte Airport, and
dHEREAS, the El Monte Airport is an important arm of indus-
try in the San Gabriel Valley area, and serves hundreds of persons
interested in general aviation, and
4HEREAS, the loss of the El Monte Airport will be suffered
by all future generations engaged directly or indirectly in general
aviation, and
WHEREAS, the Stanford Research Institution has recommended
the saving of El Monte Airport, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors is the only legislative
body presently able to save this most valuable aviation facility.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Temple City does
hereby recommend to the Board of Supervisors that it take immediate
steps to preserve the El Monte Airport as a general aviation facility,
that in order to enable a comprehensive plan of acquisition the County
of Los Angeles forthwith lease the El Monte Airport, immediately fol-
lowing which a study be made as to the most feasable method of acquisi
tion of said airport to the end that eventually the County of Los
Angeles own and operate said facility for the use of present and future
generations of those engaged in general aviation in the San Gabriel
Valley.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 6th day of February, 1965.
