All perennial or groundcover beds shall receive a minimum of two (2) inch thick layer of shredded bark, wood chips or other all organic mulch. Landscape materials shall be selected and located so as not to obstruct visual or physical access to fire hydrants. 1. 2. Any missing, dead or severely damaged or diseased plant material shall be replaced by the owner, tenant or their agent during the next planting season for the said plant material. Plant materials other than ground cover shall be set back a minimum of three (3) feet from the curb to avoid damage from overhanging car bumpers and doors. 3. 4. All planting area which is not occupied by trees, shrubs, flowers or groundcover shall be turf. Foundation planting shall be provided on those facades that exceed fifty (50) lineal feet. 5. 6. The caliper of the trunk of all trees shall be at diameter breast height (DBH - four-and-one-half (4.5) feet above ground). 7. 8. 9. 10. All plant material shall comply with the provisions set forth by the American Standard for Nursery Stock, ANSI Z60.1 - (most recent edition). Size of vegetation depicted on drawing is between two-thirds (2/3) to full mature size. Symbols are not indicative of size of item at planting. (See planting schedule) All trees, shrubs, ground cover and flowers shall be balled and wrapped or container grown. No container grown stock will be accepted if it is root bound. Planting Notes The perimeter of the planting hole shall extend a minimum of two (2) feet beyond the sides of the root ball on all sides. The sides of the hole shall slope gradually, making the hole bowl-shaped. The hole shall be no deeper than necessary to cover the root ball. If hole is mechanically dug, sides shall be scored to eliminate any glazing. 1. 2. A doughnut-like circle of soil shall be cultivated eight (8) to twelve (12) inches deep and eighteen (18) inches wide around the root ball. A three (3) inch layer of organic mulch shall be spread over the planting hole coming no closer to the trunk than six (6) inches. The trees shall be initially watered to remove air pockets from the soil and later as necessary to maintain a healthy, vigorous condition. All tags, wires, plastic ties and rope shall be removed from each plant to prevent girdling the plant. The burlap shall be removed from the upper third of the root ball. 3. 4. All trees shall be planted straight and shall be maintained in an upright position. Trees greater than three (3) inch caliper shall be staked for a minimum of one (1) growing season to prevent the tree from leaning. 5. Remove weeds, organic matter and rocks larger than one-and-one-half (1.5) inches from soil.
