HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 65-447RESOLUTION NO. 65 -447 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TEMPLE CITY SUPPORTING DIVULGENCE OF NAMES OF JUVENILES IDEN- TIFIED WITH MAJOR CRIMES OF VIOLENCE AND BRUTALITY ALONG WITH NAMES AND ADDRESSES OF PARENTS OR LEGAL GUARDIANS. WHEREAS, there has been a steady increase in juvenile crime greater in proportion to the increase in population, and WHEREAS, immediate steps must be taken to reduce and prevent the increase in juvenile crime, and WHEREAS, an expose of the names of juveniles identified with major crimes of violence and brutality, along with the names and addresses of the parents or legal guardians could prove most timely and helpful in meeting the serious challenge ahead, providing among other things, a reawakening of parental responsibility and elimi- nation of parental coddling, responsible for such juvenile delin- quency, NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Newspapers and other news media should divulge the names of juveniles identified with major crimes of violence and brutality, along with the names and addresses of the parents or le- gal guardians. SECTION 2. The City Council expressly approves the stand taken by the Board of Supervisors in respect to elimination of the shelter heretofore provided for the delinquent involved in crimes of brutal, ity and violence, and urges the Board of Supervisors to take vigor- ous and prompt action to affectuate legislation which will cause parental responsibility to be awakened in favor of the public's health, welfare and safety.
