HomeMy Public PortalAbout05/01/1962 CCMREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF MEDINA MAY 1,1962 189 Meeting called to order at 8 PM by Mayor Scott. All council mimbers present. Minutes of April 3 meeting read. Motion by Arens to accept minutes as read, second by Arthur fertz, motion carried. Thomas Jeglosky gave a report on the activities of the committee that was appointed to study voter participation and activity in the village. The committee is made up of the following; Th4omas Jeglosky, Chairman, Howard Peterson, Mrs Kenneth Proehl, Mrs. Harry Schmit and Mrs Donald Willis. The committee is mainly interested in getting the residents to register and vote, a list of new residents in the village is being compiled by Howard Peterson from the Orone school records. The committee will work with the League of Women Voters in the village. Paul Fortin appeard before the council on behalf of the Hamel Athletic Club to ask for RA aid in maintaince of the Hamel Memorial feild. He also reported that the Village of Plymouth will be asked to help support the field also. Motion by H. MAX Winterhalter to grant the Hamel Athletic Club $300.00, second by H. 1 4Mala4 Arens, motion carried. John Dorn appeared before the council about the problem of drainage of water from his basement, the council had been told by Roabie Begin that the problem had been taken care of and a release foom conciliation court was shown as pro6f. Mr Dorn stated that this release had nothing to do with the water problem. Motion by Gertz to tnstaact the clerk to write Rochie Begin a letter asking him to take action on the drainage problem on the Dorn property., Second by Winterhalter, motion carried. Motion by Arthur Gertz to install street lights as follows, one at Independence beach at Maple Ave on the curve and one at the intersection of Fzrue Road and Medina Road # 9•, second by Heberet Arens, Motion Carried. Mr. French representing the Hennepin County Park board appeared with a contract for policy seriice at Baker Park, the contract being the same as last years, Motion by Arthur Gertz to adopt a resolution to accdpt the contract to provide police services for Baker park for the coming year, second by Herb Arens, motion carried. Residents from the Independence beach area asked if anything could by done about the brussh and weeds on the vacant lots in the area, they were informed that this was the responsibilty of the weed inspector. Motion by Arthur Gertz to grant Hataline Martinson an On and Off sale beer liscence and a cigerette 11±lll liscense for a period of 2 months, second by Winterhalter, motion carried. Mr. Hall appeared with a request to move back a stone wall along the road on his pro- perty and have the council establish the right of way line, he also request the road be widened. The road committee will establish the right of way line. Time and date for the Board of Review was set at 8 Am, Wedensday June 20,1962 at the Village Hall. Council agreed to haul some gravel on the Norling road. Stop sign in Hamel was discussed and the council agreed to install it as planned. No action taken on the rental ordinance that had been discussed previoully at the planning commission meeting. Motion by Herbert Arens congratulating Harold Winterhalter on his graduation from the University of Minnesota, second by Arthur Gertz, motion carried. Motion by Arthur Gertz to thank the Orona Lions for the resusitator they had given the Village, Second by Herbert Arens, motion carried. Mayor Scott instructed the building inspector to check on a drainfeild reported running over on the adjooing property from a lot on Road # 9 near the Roger Dayon rededence. The dance hall ordinance was discussed ,XXXX6XXMX and it was the WA# agreed that the ordinance would apply to any dancing at the "55" club. Mayor Scott reported that he had been invited by Long Lake Mayor Dexter to attend a council meeting at which their Justice of the Peace outlined the proposed estabilslns ment of a joint Municipal Court. This would include, Medina, Long Lake and Oron®. These villages would share the costs. This would be one way to combat the proposed bill in the legislature to set up Court Districts. Mayor Scott said he was opposed to the Joint Muncipal court beceuse it would make tt very difficult for the police officers. They would have to have a full time staff, law library, and all the other expenses. It would cost the Village $1200. to $1500, a year and a judge would heve to be elected. He simd he felt village Justice of the peace Mel Gertz was doing a fine job and he would like to see the court system remain the way it was.
