20111020BeachTaskMinutes Page 1 of 2 Beach Task Force Meeting – October 20, 2011 Those in attendance: Amy Lanier, Arnie Seyden, Berta Adams, Harvey Ferrelle, Jimmy Burke, Joe Richardson,
John Wylly, Mary McCracken, Wick Searcy, Diane Schleicher, Mayor Jason Buelterman, Paul Wolff, Bill Garbett Ms. Lanier called the meeting to order at 11:40AM. Berta Adams made a motion
to approve the minutes from August 18, 2011. Arnie Seyden seconded. Vote was unanimous Berta Adams made a motion to approve the minutes from September 15, 2011 as amended. Joe Richardson
seconded. Vote was unanimous. Ms. Lanier announced that Chuck Powell had submitted his resignation effective immediately due to work related issues. Committee Reports: • Ms. Adams gave
her report on State Funding Committee: o She feels representatives from Tybee Island need to visit the Governor’s office to discuss pursuing federal funding and establishing state/local
funding for the upcoming re-nourishment in 2015. o Possible partnership with Jekyll Island for state funding for re-nourishment. She will not be contacting St. Simons Island. o Ms. Adams
stated representatives from the BTF need to go to Atlanta and “just sit” to meet with the Governor’s aide. o Jimmy Burke made a motion to have representation to Atlanta to discuss state
funding for the 2015 Beach Re-nourishment. Joe Richardson seconded. Vote was unanimous. Discussion: The mayor elect should accompany Berta Adams and/or others to Atlanta and the trip
should be before Thanksgiving and after the upcoming election. • Mayor’s Update o Mayor Buelterman reported that he received a letter from the COE to close out Phase I of the Impact
Study. There is approximately $3,000 left over which he suggested go toward the 2015 Beach Re-nourishment. o He agreed we need to start working on state funding
20111020BeachTaskMinutes Page 2 of 2 o Need to meet with Bill Hubbard, Savannah Chamber to discuss funding as they have a great deal of influence with the LOST and SPLOST. o Need to
approach the county to put $3,000 in their budget for re-nourishment o The City is trying to commit $300,000 in the budget for re-nourishment o Worthington & Company will attend the
November 17, 2011 BTF. They are former COE employees. Ms. Lanier asked Ms. Adams to arrange for the Atlanta trip and Mayor Buelterman will set up the meeting with Bill Hubbard. • County
Funding Committee – Harvey Ferrelle o Spoke with Pat Ferrell, Chatham County Commissioners, regarding members from the BTF attending the next meeting. It was decided that the mayor/mayor
elect would attend. Ms. Adams suggested that a representative from the BTF should attend their meetings at least once a quarter. Ms. Adams asked that Jan LeViner notified the BTF members
once a quarter when the next meeting is so they can attend and do a very short presentation. Ms. Adams suggested that since we have a vacancy on the BTF we should approach a member from
the media to fill the position. Mr. Wolff would like to see the BTF make a recommendation to council. He further stated that we should approach Sonny Dixon to fill the position. Harvey
Ferrelle will contact Mr. Dixon. • 2015 Re-nourishment Oversight Committee – Lou Off – not present • Channel Impact Study, Phase II Oversight Committee – Suspended • Fort Screven Shoreline
Hazard Committee o Dr. Richardson stated there is a great deal on erosion on north beach New Business: • Mr. Wylly read an email from Brooks Stillwell (attached) regarding the proposed
Shore Protection Ordinance. Meeting adjourned at 12:20PM
