PROCLAMATION OF SAVINGS BONDS MONTH, MAY 1965
WHEREAS, the current critical times demand exceptional dedi-
cation to arming the forces of freedom, strengthening the power for
peace, stabilizing the dollar, and defending the Nation, and
WHEREAS, United States Savings Bonds serve all these purposes
through the more that $48 billion outstanding, the nearly $5 billion
sold annually in the Nation in these Shares in America, the 22% in
the national debt which makes its management of this debt more
efficient and safer, and
WHEREAS, at the request of the President of the United States
and the Secretary of the Treasury, and under the leadership of the
presidents of two of California's major corporations, Mr. Daniel J.
Naughton of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and Mr. Carl 0. Lindeman
of Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, more than 300 of the
larger employers in California have set for themselves a mission
in practical patriotism, the objective of obtaining more than
138,000 new savers and more than $340 million in Savings Bonds
sales in 1965.
WHEREAS, the Month of May is a major launching time for these
Star - Spangled Savings Bonds Programs to give more citizens the
opportunity to participate in such practical patriotism and aid
the national purpose, and improve their own individual financial
health, that of their families and communities, now
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that 1 declare the Month of May to
be Star - Spangled Savings Bonds Month and urge all citizens and
organizations, public and private, to participate actively in this
patriotic purpose.
