Updated Fall 2010 Milling and Paving Schedule
Nighttime street resurfacing work to take place
October 31, 2010 through November 3, 2010
Leesburg, VA (October 21, 2010) – The Town of Leesburg’s Public Works Department has
announced an updated schedule for milling and paving work to be conducted in the coming
weeks. Some of the night work on the Route 15 Bypass and Fort Evans and Edwards Ferry
Roads in the vicinity of the bypass has been postponed until Spring 2011. The updated
schedule, subject to inclement weather delays, is below.
Part of the Town’s regular streets maintenance program, milling and paving is a surface
replacement process that eliminates existing pot holes and creates a smooth new road surface.
Milling and paving extends the life of the Town’s streets and is done on any particular street
about once every ten to fifteen years.
The road surface replacement process takes place in two steps. First, the top 1 to 1½ inches of
asphalt is milled or ground off the street. Then, a new overlay of hot-mix asphalt is applied to
the street, creating the new pavement surface. Typically, milling will be done on one day and
paving will be done on the next day. During milling and paving operations, crews will close one
lane of the street at a time, so motorists should expect delays. In addition, no on-street parking
will be allowed during the scheduled milling and paving operations.
The following night work is scheduled:
1. Route 15 Bypass, from Edwards Ferry Road to Fort Evans Road (southbound lanes)
• Milling: Sunday, October 31 – Monday, November 1, 9 pm – 5 am
• Paving: Tuesday, November 2 – Wednesday, November 3, 9 pm – 5 am
