HomeMy Public PortalAbout1979_02_14_R017TOWN OF LEESBURG IN LOUDOUN COUNTY, VIRGINIA RESOLUTION NO. 79-17 PRESENTED February 14, 1979 AMENDED February 14, 1979 ADOPTED February 14, 1979 A RESOLUTION: REQUESTING AN OPINION FROM THE VIRGINIA ATTORNEY GENERAL WHEREAS, a request has been received for amendment of the Leesburg Town Code to exempt motor vehicles owned and used by churches from town motor vehicle license requirements; and WHEREAS, a question exists as to whether or not legal authority exists for such exemption; THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg as follows: Virginia General Assembly Delegate Earl E. Bell is re- spectfully requested to secure the opinion of the Virginia Attorney General as to: (1) Whether motor vehicles owned by a church or a re- ligious organization are exempt from payment of a town motor vehicle license fee, and (2) Whether or not motor vehicles owned and used by churches can be exempted from municipal motor ve- hicle license requirements.
