HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 65-485 Declaration of Jackie Robinson Day 2016-06-16RESOLUTION NO. 65 -485 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY PROC U.IMING JUNE 16, 1965 AS JACKIE ROBINSON DAY. WHEREAS, Jackie Robinson, is one of Los Angeles County's most distinguished citizens and sports personalities, having won national acclaim as an outstanding player with the Brooklyn Dodger Baseball Club of the National League; and WHEREAS, Jackie Robinson further distinguished himself as the first Negro to participate in organized professional base- ball and by his recent nomination and election to the Baseball Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Jackie Robinson had previously been aL out- standing athlete at the University of California at Los Angeles and at Pasadena City College; ar.d WHERE °.S, throughout his athletic and scholastic career and his subsequent business career, he has demonstrated the highest qualities of leadership and citizenship; and WHEREAS, a new county park in Littlerock, California, has been named in his honor and will be dedicated or Jute 16, 1965; MOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Temple City, California does hereby proclaim June 16, 1965 as Jackie Robinson Day in recognitio, of this out- standing citizen and the new recreation facility that will bear his name.
