A RESOLUTION: SETTING THE CALENDAR YEAR 2020 TOWN COUNCIL MEETING
SCHEDULE AND FIXING THE DAY OR DAYS TO WHICH A
REGULAR MEETING SHALL BE CONTINUED IN THE EVENT OF
INCLEMENT WEATHER
WHEREAS,the Town Council traditionally meets in formal session on the second and
fourth Tuesday in each month, and sits as a"committee of the whole" on the Monday preceding
the regular council meeting in the Council Chambers, 25 West Market Street; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council traditionally cancels a set of meetings in August to
provide for summer break; and
WHEREAS,the Town Council traditionally cancels the second meetings of December to
observe the Christmas holiday; and
WHEREAS,the Town of Leesburg will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 25,
2020, Labor Day on Monday, September 7, 2020, and Columbus Day on Monday, October 12,
2020, which are Federal Government holidays that will conflict with the work sessions; and
WHEREAS,the Town considers an adjustment to its schedule when conflicts exist with
the annual Virginia Municipal League conference which is scheduled for October 9-14, 2020 in
order to encourage Town Council attendance and participation prompting Council to move its
first set of meetings in October to October 5-6; and
WHEREAS, Council has expressed a desire to meet to discuss the applicants for the
Town Attorney position on June 30, 2020, at 6:00 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Code Section § 15.2-1416 allows a governing body to fix the day
or days to which a regular meeting shall be continued if the mayor or vice-mayor is unable to act,
finds and declares that weather or other conditions are such that it is hazardous for members to
attend the regular meeting.

THEREFORE, RESOLVED, by Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that:
(1) The Town Council shall meet in formal session at 7:00 p.m., on the second and fourth
Tuesday in each month and shall sit as a"committee of the whole" convening at 7:00
p.m., on Monday preceding the regular council meeting in the Council Chamber, 25 West
Market Street or at such time and place as the Council may determine from time to time
with the exception of the work session meetings of May 25, 2020 and September 7, 2020,
which are canceled to observe Memorial Day and Labor Day, and the first set of meetings
in October which will take place on October 5 and 6 to avoid conflict with the annual
Virginia Municipal League conference, and a meeting at 6:00 p.m. on June 30, 2020, to
discuss the applicants for the Town Attorney position;
(2) Regular meetings shall be continued to the next regularly-scheduled meeting if the
mayor or vice-mayor is unable to act or if the mayor declares that weather or other
conditions are such that it is hazardous for members to attend the regular meeting. Such
finding shall be communicated to the members and the press as promptly as possible. All
hearings and other matters previously advertised shall be conducted at the continued
meeting and no further advertisement shall be required.
