Thomas Balch Library Receives Additional $367,993 from
Virginia L. Bowie Estate
Leesburg, VA (November 1, 2010) – In December 2009, Town of Leesburg officials announced
that Thomas Balch Library received a $250,000 bequest from the estate of Virginia L. Bowie, a
longtime volunteer and supporter of the Library. When the Town received that initial payment,
officials were informed that the Library could receive an additional bequest following the final
settlement of Ms. Bowie’s estate. Today, officials announced that the Library has received an
additional $367,993.
Town staff, in consultation with the Town’s financial advisors, are evaluating the possibility of
establishing an endowment fund for the Library. Staff will present options and solicit feedback
from the Balch Library Advisory Commission, the Friends of the Balch Library and the Balch
Library’s Black History Committee before making recommendations to the Town Council.
