HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolutions-2011-42CITY OF TIFFIN RESOLUTION 2011-42 Iff A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR A PUBLIC MEASURE TO BE INCLUDED ON THE CITY ELECTION BALLOT FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2011 FOR VOTER APPROVAL OF CHANGING MAYOR'S TERM FROM TWO YEARS TO FOUR YEAR TERM WHEREAS, the current term for the Mayor is two years, per a petition submitted by twelve eligible electors, it so desires to change the Mayor's term to four years. WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Tiffin has reviewed the petition submitted by the electors and have discussed the issue at hand. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the City Council of the City of Tiffin, Iowa;, SECTION 1. The City Council of Tiffin, Iowa requests the County Commissioner'of Elections to submit to the voters in Johnson County a Public Measure to make an election to decide if the,Mayor term can be changed to a four year term beginning in January 1, 2014. SECTION 2. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to provide the request of the Public Measure to the County Commissioner of Elections,of Johnson County, Iowa. Section 3. Public Measure A: Shall the following public measure be adopted? Yes or No Summary: To make an election to change the term of Mayor from a two year term to a four year term beginning with the term that begins January 1, 2016. At the regular City Council meeting on the 14th day of September, 2011 Council person Travis Weipert, introduced for approval Resolution 2011-42 A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR A PUBLIC MEASURE TO BE INCLUDED ON THE CITY ELECTION BALLOT FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2011 FOR VOTER APPROVAL OF CHANGING MAYOR'S TERM FROM TWO YEARS TO FOUR YEAR TERM seconded by Councilperson Chris Ball. Motion contingent if such action is approved by the Johnson County Auditor for Elections per Iowa Code 376.2. AYES: Chris Ball, Mike Gericke, Mark Petersen, Travis Weipert NAYS: None ABSENT: Jim Bartels. WHEREUPON, with Four votes for approval, Mayor Phillips declared that Resolution 2011-42 A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR A PUBLIC MEASURE TO BE INCLUDED ON THE CITY ELECTION BALLOT FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2011 FOR VOTER APPROVAL OF CHANGING MAYOR'S TERM FROM TWO YEARS TO FOUR YEAR TERM be adopted and signified his approval of the same by affixing his signature thereto.
